Summer Reads 2016

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski – Summer Surprise in Romania

We must admit that Marie Rutkoski’s writing is absolutely wonderful and her characters attract readers. With a captivating action and seductive characters, The Winner’s Curse was a very nice summer surprise in Romania. I found it pretty catchy and now I’m looking forward to reading the next volume. Here are some interesting quotes from the book. Enjoy!

The winner

The Winner’s Curse is when you come out on top of the bid, but only by paying a steep price.”

Isn’t that what stories do, make real things fake, and fake things real?”

He felt the sensation of it, low and alive on his mouth. For a moment, he imagine it wasn’t the melody that touched his lips, but Kestrel.”

The Winner’s Curse is when you come out on top of the bid, but only by paying a steep price.”

Survival isn’t wrong. You can sell your honor in small ways, so long as you guard yourself. You can pour a glass of wine like it’s meant to be poured, and watch a man drink, and plot your revenge.”

Arin, who had set hooks into her heart and drawn her to him so that she wouldn’t see anything but his eyes. Arin was her enemy”

Really, Arin. You must sort out your lies and your truths or even you won’t know which is which.”

You don’t, Kestrel, even though the god of lies loves you.”

She focused on that nothingness, imagined it as ink spilling over everything she could possibly think or feel.”

The Winner’s Curse is the first book from The Winner’s Trilogy.  We look forward to reading the next books –The Winner’s Crime and The Winner’s Kiss–  and we hope that LEDA will surprise us soon.

See you as soon as possible with new summer reads!
